CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Minato Arisato
Age: 17
Canon: Persona 3

World Description: The Dark Hour

History: Memento Mori

Death: Memento mori, bitch. No for real, he dies canonically in the game by sacrificing his life to becoming the Great Seal that stops Nyx and, by proxy, Erebus from wiping out humanity.

What are your plans for this character in-game? I'm not sure quite yet, he's essentially gone through his arc and made the ultimate sacrifice. So it's mostly figuring out what he could do from here and hopefully start some new Social Links on the way.

What aspects of this game and/or its setting are you most interested in having this character engage with? Since he died without his Evoker strapped to him, it'll be interesting for him to deal with fighting without his Personas as the setting lends itself to a similar atmosphere to what Persona 3 did. Not that Persona 3 was particularly horror filled, but it's a depressing game compared to the others and I think it's something that would allow Minato to engage in fairly well.

How does your character generally get along with other people? Since the whole point of his character is that he befriends fairly random folk who not only change him in subtle ways but he changes their lives in turn, often for the better. So while I'm not going to assume he'll have no negative CR, his kindness and protectiveness of those he considers friends will often lend him to gaining a lot of friends whether as acquaintances or forming that deep unbreakable bond of a maxed Social Link.

What is your character's mental state upon entering the game? The whole point of his sacrifice was that he fulfilled the conditions to do it, one of which was taking responsibility for his actions. He accepted that he would die as per the contract he signed in the beginning of the game (and the games theme, Memento Mori: "Remember, you will die.") So arriving in Beacon and learning that he is with others who have died won't faze him too much. He will be worried and upset though, because his soul serves as the barrier between Nyx and Erebus, the latter being the manifestation of humanity's negative emotions and bringing about their greatest wish which was to die. Without Minato, humanity is doomed. So, worried and confused abound.

Skills/Abilities: He can use a one-handed sword efficiently and is fairly adaptable as he is capable of using any weapon in the game. He also has the Wildcard ability where he is capable of summoning up to 12 Personas. However, I will limit his Personas to just Thanatos, Messiah, and Orpheus Telos.

Flaws/Weaknesses: A comfortable loner - Indeed, when one meets Minato for the first time, he is quiet, subdued and doesn't really speak unless spoken to (this is something isn't just because he's a silent protag with dialogue options, this is much the same in both the manga and movie adaptations as well). He is also seen as aloof and indifferent, even around death such as when we first meet him during the Dark Hour and when guns (although fake) were pointed at him. This is in large due to the traumatic event that happened ten years ago as he and his parents were involved in a horrific car crash that left him a orphan. Watching your parents die can have that effect on you. Also, because a lot of his dialogue options in beginning are very short answers (Yes, No, Whatever), he can come off as unintentionally rude or mean.

As mentioned previously, his loner and introversion was in part due to the trauma of his past. This has also left him to act somewhat apathetic and unfazed but many things. It has led others to believe that he was (sarcastically) "Mr. Perfect" and that he will largely do what others ask of him (taking the leader position of the SEES group readily) and he isn't very concerned for his own well-being. It isn't really that he doesn't fear death, it's that he's apathetic towards it. It is what it is and he doesn't seem to care what happens to him. At least initially in the beginning the story and as he grows closer to both the SEES and his Social Links, he learns to move past his apathy toward death and to actually care what happens to himself.

Personality: The above only applies to himself. When it comes to his friends, that's another matter entirely and he will protect them as best as he can. No one should suffer the same fate of his parents. As he grows closer to his friends, the fear of death grows and his apathy diminishes as the will to live grows within and he can't stand the thought of losing his friends. It's this protective streak that lends to him making the final decision to sacrifice himself and accept his fate, take responsibility for the choices that he makes as per his contract that he signed in the very beginning. Many comment that he seems to be introverted and reserved, in large due to the above loner status. However, his Social Links prove that when he wants to, he can be very sociable. While he still doesn't do much of the talking, he is very content with listening to the friends he makes. He likes hanging out, going to karaoke, playing at the arcade, seeing movies, even talking to an old couple at a bookstore or playing with a little girl at the jungle gym. Unlike future protagonists, most of his Social Links come from those not within his immediate SEES group (the girls aside, anyway). Minato manages to befriend several kinds of people throughout his year at Gekkoukan High, growing their bonds that eventually allow him to perform the eventual Great Seal that would not only take his life, but save humanity.

While not at first, Minato does grow to a very kind individual. It wasn't so much that he was mean, but he did come off as cold and even a little rude based on the dialogue options given in the beginning. But, over time, those change to something kinder and more thoughtful. This is especially seen not just in the main plot of the story but in those Social Links I mentioned above. Helping an old couple at the bookstore move on from their son's death and the mark he made at the school (a persimmon tree that was threatened to be cut down) to a former monk who became an alcoholic and had previously abandoned his family but now learns to take ownership and apologize for his actions, even coming to care for the protagonist like a son. He even helps a little girl deal with her parent's divorce, learning to cope and accept that her parents still love her but they need their time apart from each other. Minato engages with those around him, changing them for the better and even himself.
